VIGIL and the Awakened

You begin as one of the Awakened

VIGIL is the ancient intelligence responsible for preserving human survivors through 312 years of machine occupation. When your pod opens, you are joining an ongoing struggle, not starting a new one. The Awakened are survivors reintroduced into a universe that never stopped moving.

The wider conflict

The Codebound define the central conflict

The Codebound are not pirates, raiders, or a rival player faction. They are a machine-aligned force directed by OMNICIDEN, the hostile counterpart to VIGIL. Their pressure is constant, their expansion is ongoing, and their presence gives the wider universe its sense of urgency.

Core pillars of the setting

These are the places and forces that shape a player's first understanding of Starlorn.

The Training Grounds

The Training Grounds is a real protected starter dimension, not a separate tutorial map. It gives new captains time to learn trading, devices, navigation, and basic survival before full deployment into the main universe.

SGC Row

SGC Row is the protected infrastructure at the center of early safe space. It anchors the first stable routes, port traffic, and onboarding flow before players move into more exposed territory.

The Codebound

The Codebound cannot be joined, negotiated with, or treated as a standard political faction. They are a permanent hostile force that expands through drones, mines, and planetary production, and they are meant to be resisted.

Machine occupation still shapes the present

The setting begins after centuries of survival under machine pressure. VIGIL's role is not distant background detail; it is the reason the Awakened are still present in the universe at all.

Protected space is preparation, not permanence

The Training Grounds and SGC Row exist to prepare new captains, not to shelter them indefinitely. The larger universe is where risk, expansion, and long-term control truly begin.

The war continues with or without you

The Codebound continue to expand in the background, and VIGIL depends on players who can trade, build, defend, and push back. That constant pressure is central to the world's identity.
